Friday Fun

Yesterday, because I'm 13 years old at heart, I bought this. I couldn't help myself.

Today will be Mustache Shaped PB&J Day!

(I guess it's a good thing that I'm 13 seeing that it's suitable for 12 and up. Phew! Just made the cutoff.)

...............

If we're naming the day might as well name the night too.

Tonight will be Parent's Night Out because we have a babysitter!

A real babysitter! One who lives next door! Oh, the convenience!
I hope it goes well, because Justin and I could get used to this.

...............

Mustache shaped sandwiches today, adult food with other adults tonight. Looking like a good day!

Hope your Friday is Fun too!

Care to share what you have going on that's fun?

Let's chat.

It's been awhile since we've talked about everyday stuff, so here's a few updates on what's been going on around here.

***************

Making the most of the monsoon weather we had two weeks ago, we painted Vaughn's room.

Wait! I know what you're thinking - it's SO white!

It looks that way now, but with the curtains (that I'm currently looking for fabric for) and her furniture (that I'm currently trying to decide what color to paint) it's going to be great! There'll be so many other bright colors going on that I wanted white walls to balance everything out.

(By the way, picking a white color to paint was tough. There's so many to choose from and picking one that went with the ceiling and trim color made me want to pull my hair out!)

For no reason whatsoever, other than I'm channeling my inner Sandra Lee, I've been playing around with "tablescapes". That word kind of makes my skin crawl. Here's the centerpiece of this weeks creation - which seems to be tea and bird themed. I didn't get a shot of the whole thing, but don't worry, there's birds nests and other tea stuff.

Vance:
I volunteered for my first-ever field trip for his class trip to the zoo. Holy cow, 1st grade boys have a lot of energy! It was fun but I was more than happy when I returned my group (fully accounted for, I might add) back to the teacher. Vance was so excited that I was there - I figured that's not going to last forever so might as well take full advantage of it now.

Vaughn:
Has to be going through a growth spurt. She self-destructs if she's not in bed by 7:30 and is eating a ton. She also, for the first time ever, took a nap at school. Normally when I walk in to pick her up she's quietly reading on her cot. I nearly fell over when I walked into her classroom on Tuesday and saw her fast asleep. I joked with the teachers that I'd let her sleep and be back later. My Birdie is a lot of things but a happy camper she is not when she's woken up from a nap. They didn't take the bait. I had to wake her up.

I'm happy to say that we're all finally on our way to being healthy around here. The past 25 days have been horrible and I'm glad it's behind us. My poison ivy is definitely healing but still annoyingly itchy. I can wear short-sleeved shirts now and hopefully can show my legs in public by next week. The kids had a stomach bug last week, Justin had a bit of something also last week, and it caught up with me last Friday. We're normally pretty healthy people so all of this has taken a toll on us. We're ready for April to be over and start fresh in May!

Happy Thursday! Do something fun today!

Baseball (said like James Earl Jones in Field of Dreams...)

On Saturday Vance had his first baseball game. To say he was excited would be an understatement. EXCITED!!! would be more like it.

While at Hobby Lobby searching for something extremely different beforehand, I found blank rally fingers. I didn't know these existed.

I drew everything onto clear contact paper and then used an exact knife to cut them out.

I was going to use acrylic paint but couldn't find my white in the mass of unpacked boxes, so I just used white house paint. The contact paper doesn't really stick to the foam so I had to take it slow around the edges but it worked fine.

I think it turned out cute!

Game Time!

First at bat

On base

Vance had been waiting for this for so long. It was great to finally get to see him play. Another 'first' for him down!

We had a great weekend. Hope you did too!

Meet Joy.

Have you guys met Joy? Joy the Baker? You totally should.

I haven't met her, met her but I visit her blog everyday.

Here's a screen shot of her site - click on it and it will take you to her.

She's a clever writer, bakes great things, and takes pretty pictures of food. She also just came out with a cookbook. I need to buy it.

That's my suggestion for you today.

It's Monday and both my associates are SICK!

Tummy bugs of some sort, which means no school for Vance, no ballet for Vaughn, and no swim lessons tonight for both of them. Hope they kick this soon!

Easter!

Here's a sneak peak into our Easter.

Dying eggs round one - brown eggs don't dye too well. Oops!

Round two of dying eggs at my parent's house, Bunny Ears totally fitting. Kudos to Vance.

Baskets were found!

So were eggs! Up high...

and down low.

Happy Easter from Smiley and Squinty McGee!

We rounded out the day with lots of family time and had a great Easter - hope everyone did too!

Still Got It Bad: Update

It's never a good sign when the doctor backs away from you.

That's what mine did this morning.

Backed up and positioned himself in the corner.

........

The poison ivy isn't getting better, even on meds, so hopefully the steroid shot that I got today will help. Help it stop spreading, help it stop itching, help it stop everything.

The Doc gave me a lifelong free pass from doing yard work and suggested we had professionals come in and check the rest of the yard.

And because life sometimes throws everything at you all at once: As I was called to step inside the reception area to update my new information for the doctor I left the kids in the waiting area. I could still see them through the nurses window and it would only be a couple of minutes. In that short time Vaughn threw up all over herself and Vance (from motion sickness). They were so scared. I felt horrible. It was a mess.

Happy and thankful to say that we made it back home, got cleaned up, Vance made lunch for everyone and that we're relaxing watching a movie.

I hope my next update is a good one and that I'm able to share a new project that was put on hold during this detour.

:::Happy Easter!:::

You've Got It, You've Got It Bad

(Title sung to Usher's You've Got It. Thanks, Ush.)

As in poison ivy. Justin and I both have got it bad. Bad. BAD. No wait, BAD!!! That's more like it. If I had a choice between of poison ivy or being 9 months pregnant for 2 weeks, I'd choose pregnancy. Hands down.

We both were started on steroids yesterday. Justin on a z-pack, me on prednisone because mine seems more severe. (That last sentence was just to taunt Justin - he's competitive with everything.) Both of us are equally miserable.

And the black dots on my arms that I thought were spider bites? Not spider bites at all. I couldn't keep from Googling them and learned that they are a sign of a rare form of poison ivy called Black-Oil poison ivy. Both doctors that we saw yesterday hadn't heard of it, but the pictures from the medical journals that I saw are exactly what mine look like.

Awesome. I'm an overachiever when it comes to getting poison ivy.

Right as we started ripping the Devil Bushes out on Sunday I said, "I should be wearing my old tennis shoes." I should have went and changed from my good running shoes then. I could have thrown the old ones away and now I have to figure out how to wash my shoes to get the possible poison ivy oil off of them without hurting them.

Hope everyone is having a better day!

Devil Bushes

We set out on Sunday to trim bushes. No big deal.

(It's always a big deal.)

Once we dug in, it was apparent that said bushes were spawn of the devil and more than a trim was going to be necessary. They all had to go.

Long story, we got it done, complained afterwards about not being cut out for manual labor as our backs hurt, arms were scratched up from the branches, blah, blah blah.

End of night, I'm sitting on the couch and notice three welts on my arm, two of which are close together and have black spots in the middle. I assume it's a spider bite and did what I know should never be done in these exact circumstances. I Googled "early spider bites". Don't ever do that. I'm convinced that mine don't look that bad and then used a trick that I learned from the kid's doctor - circled the areas with pen so that I could tell later on if/how much they had swollen.

No more swelling in the morning, so I'm good. Justin's arms on the other hand, are covered in itchy red bumps. We do what any normal people do and cut the toe off from an old sock, cover his worst arm with hydracortisone cream and slide the sock over his arm so that the cream wouldn't get on his work shirt.

I think I'm sitting pretty with what could or couldn't be a spider bite until lunch. Vaughn and I are enjoying lunch al fresco and I notice red bumps on both of my arms. And a couple spots on my legs. I text Justin and he replies with something about wanting to cut his arms off so I know he's hurting too.

Of course those Devil Bushes gave us Poison Ivy. Why wouldn't they?

We both know what poison ivy looks like. I'm still confused how we missed it.

We're itchy and bitchy. Don't mess with us.

What 61 Days Looks Like

I've been participating in

for the past 61 days.

Everyday an inspiration is given. I try to use that and somehow incorporate it to what is going on with us so that I can look back and remember a snippet of each day.

If you feel like playing along too, here's the April list:

Click on the picture if you need more explanation.

Wonder what day 62 will look like?

Whatever your day looks like - Hope you have a good one!
