So, I got nothing for you today. Yesterday was a slow day.

Vaughn hit her head on the corner of the wood stairs, so she's got a banged-up eye. Her first battle wound. Vance never suffered any. He escaped toddlerhood without any black eyes, lumps on foreheads, or anything like that.

Today at the grocery store, Vance turned to me and said, "Dogs don't get chilly 'cause they have lots of fur to keep them warm." We weren't talking about dogs. There were no dogs in the store and we were not even near the dog food aisle. I get random jewels like that all day long. Another one? The other day we were walking out of Home Depot and he rather loudly told me, "Girls go poop sitting down." Makes me laugh.

Vance has school today. His buddy at school was out of town last week (Disney World - guessing this will put an idea in Vance's head now). Vance is pumped that his friend will be back today. That's all we've talked about lately. Jacob. And dinosaurs. And mosquitos. That's my life. I just diagnosed why I have troubles talking with other adults.

I'm pretty sure Vance attempted to baptize his marshmallows and chocolate he had for dessert yesterday. (He prefers deconstructed S'more's over the old fashioned ones.)

Church had quite the impact on him yesterday.

He also keeps asking about the girls who sang during the service. All throughout the day he kept saying things like, "Those girls can really sing, can't they Mom?" Vance has always enjoyed music. He has been rockin' out lately on his drums to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Slow Ride, and the theme song of Imagination Movers. Heavy stuff, I know. He's bummed that the piece that held his crash cymbal up must have gotten thrown away during the unpacking process. What's a drummer without his cymbal?

Justin and Vance had a conversation yesterday morning on why Daddy can't drink beer with his lunch at work. Had me laughing so hard that I cried.

That's been the biggest news around here lately. Here's some updates.

Vance is full swing into dinosaurs. He can't get enough of them. All day we're talking, reading, or playing with dinosaurs. We've also been playing a lot of Go Fish lately. Actually, it's Go Dino, because the cards have dinos on them. He's also taken an interest in laundry. "What stains, Mommy?" Then he'll go through a list of items asking me if they stain or not. Totally random, I know.

Vaughn is into everything. With her arm stretched she's tall enough to open the kitchen drawers and does so. She likes to untie your shoestrings too. She's in that stage where she doesn't want to eat baby food but hasn't figured out what table food she likes. Every mealtime is a little tricky and I never feel like she's eating enough. Her favorites so far? Chicken and cheese. She's a hoot at bath time. As soon as you put her in the water she puts her face down into it. Vance thinks it's hilarious. Hearing them laugh together is great.

Daisy's new doctor thinks she's older than what we thought. His guess was around 13. She has arthritis in her hips and we've been giving her pain medicine to keep her comfy. A few days ago we had to up her dosage. It seems to be working, but the medicine is not good for her liver. So we're at that stage where we need to keep her pain free and keep an eye out for signs liver failure. I know the end is near for her and it makes me sad.

Vance just informed me that Vaughnie pooped. Off to deal with that!

When you think cupcakes can't get any cuter

I've been freaking out about these for 2 days now. Click here to see a whole bunch of these. She's even been on Martha. (Scroll all the way to the bottom to see pics from the show) This lady is a genius and I'm finding it hard to contain myself when looking at things this cute. I can't get enough of them. Hmmm....Vaughnie's birthday is coming up!?! I wonder if they taste good though? Only one way to find out!

The little things...

This is my favorite thing that we've done to the house since we've moved in. 3M Command strip hangers hung to Vance's height in the coat closet. He can get his own coat and put it away all by himself. And he likes to help me out by doing the same for Vaughnie's coat. It makes getting ready to go and coming home a little smoother. And I don't have 2 pint-sized coats laying on the floor waiting on me to hang them up anymore. Score.

Vaughnie and her walker

I'm ready for Vaughn to walk. She weighed in at 25.5 pounds 2 weeks ago. Carrying her everywhere, especially up and down the stairs, is killing me. We practice often.

Before: Too dark. Too heavy.

After: Finally, we can see in the bathroom.

Spring is in the air around here. Over night our forsythia has blossomed and cherry trees as well. I'm really not sure if they're really cherry trees, I'm just calling them that. One looks like a normal tree, the other is a weepy thing with sad looking branches. Tiny pink flowers everywhere, though.

Allergies are starting up already, too. Just got finished giving Vance his first dose of medicine for the season.

The kiddos and I bought a new bird feeder yesterday. Vance broke our current one a couple of days ago and since then the birds have been giving us dirty looks. We have regular birds that visit us daily and we like watching them. We have three - a fat robin, and a male and female cardinal. Supposed to be another great day here today, so will have to get it filled and hung back up.

Cannabis and Lepers

Vance helped me do the base coat on the canvases yesterday. He refers to them as the cannabis.

After I picked out his clothes for school last night and started telling him about St. Patrick's Day. I really wasn't doing a good job explaining about it and I told him that they'd talk about it in school tomorrow.

And then the clouds opened up and I remembered that this week is Spring Break for him. No school. Hmph....

So, I told him about the leprechaun's. Little men with beards and all that jazz. Totally freaked him out. He woke up around 2 am and asked to sleep with me. This morning he woke up and ran to look out the windows to see the lepers. He was sadly disappointed.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone.

Vance and I were outside today checking out the tulips. We discovered that the rabbits are eating them. What to do? Does the human hair thing really work? Must Google that later. We also saw all the day lilies popping up. This thoroughly confuses Vance because he has a girl named Lily in his class. We also found a one dollar bill in the landscaping. Score.

Weekend Update!

Vance had his last day at basketball this weekend.

We did some more things around the house over the weekend. Tile on the backsplash has been grouted. Paint touch-ups have been done in the powder room. Mirrors, towel ring, and tp holder have been hung in our bathroom. I found towels and a shower curtain for the kids bathroom. More pictures have been hung. Justin and Vance dug up the stump from the tree that was cut down last summer and grass seed was put down. We looked for new office furniture, but no luck yet. Bought canvases to do paintings on either side of the fireplace. We'll see how that goes...

Vaughnie is quickly learning how to climb stairs. I just looked over and she was on the third step.

Looked for a holder for my iphone to use while running. Does anyone have suggestions? I couldn't find any specifically for the iphone, but found ones for the ipod touch. Will that work? And it said on the box that it fit biceps from 9" to 20". If that's the case I'll have to wear it around my thigh because my arms are like sticks.  Need to do more investigating.

Needing to find the kids some summer gear. Looking forward to playing outside with Vance today. Justin left again for business this morning. I'm a one man band.

The surprises just keep coming.

Ever since we've moved in, the kid's bathtub had a slow drain. We tried Drain-O, but nothing. We figured it was just one of those house quirks.

Fast forward to last night, after bath time. Vance did something to the drain that required Justin pulling the thing up and out of the drain to fix. I know that's vague, but I was in charge of washing dishes, not kids, last night. Needless to say, Justin found the root of our slow drain. 8 inch long hair balls, something totally foreign, a couple of hair bands, and a Barbie swim suit.

She drains like a champ now.

The original owner of this house seemed to be excessive in everything. One way we're enjoying this is all of the tulips popping up in the back landscaping. Every warm day we seem to find one more pushing its way through the mulch. Vance is thinking that the tulips will be purple. I'm thinking red. Only time will tell...

Weekend Update!

I had a dream last night that Justin had dropped Vaughn off at a random daycare place without my knowledge so that he could go drinking. I woke up so mad at him. Does anyone else do that? Wake up mad at someone for their actions in a dream?

I think I dreamt that because whenever we see a building with a Safe Place sign, we joke that we're going to drop the kids off there for a bit and go have a drink.

This weekend could have benefitted from a few more adult drinks. It was a good weekend, but also a crazy one.

...................

I'm having a hard time believing what happened at the First Baptist Church of Maryville. This is where Vance went to school over in Illinois. Ryan went to school there and Jack still goes there as do many other friends. We've sat in that Sanctuary many times. My heart goes out to the Pastor's family and everyone else involved. I know the news is full of stories like this, but when it's this close to home it's scary. It's different when you have been there and have a mental image of what everything must have looked like. We often take life for granted and this is another reminder.

Happy Corn Family

I couldn't decide between a "it's been a long winter for Butter boy and Butter girl" comment or a reference to Nadya Suleman. In this case, I guess one could say that Butter girl is in a better place in her life to have octuplets of her own. She's married, has a home, and a job.

One of my first blog entries was about the different ways that people butter their corn. In my opinion, the Butter girl and the Butter boy are the way to go.

I found these Butter baby corn holders yesterday. Our family is whole now. I threw out our corn holders last summer due to them being all rusty and nasty. They even interlock for storage, so I don't poke my fingers trying to find them in the drawer.

Summer is near. And that makes me happy.

I wheeled the garbage to the curb last night around 6:00. On the ground, next to the bin, I laid our old bathroom light fixture and a fake tree. By 9:30 both were gone.

This freaks me out a little. Someone stopped in front of our house to check out our trash, unknowingly to me. (Justin is out of town again, so I'm a little on edge anyways) But then, I'm glad someone could reuse what we didn't want and am thinking that we need to make this a weekly ritual. We have a basement FULL of things we don't want.

....................

We have one bathroom almost complete and it feels great. Tile is done, walls are painted, new light fixture, towel bars, and accessories are hung. The only thing it needs is a new shower curtain, towels, and some pictures.
