Happy Leap Year Day. It snowed 3 more inches last night.

I had Book Club on Wednesday night and Justin and Vance dropped me off at the host's house. (It's less than a block away, but it's cold and icy here.) On my walk back home I stopped and realized that the snow on either side of the sidewalk was taller than I was. (It's been awhile since I've taken a walk.) For a second I felt like I was in a cave with no ceiling. I need to take a picture because I don't know if that will ever happen again. If it does, I hope I'm somewhere warm, holding a boat drink in one hand and a Tuesday NY Times Crossword in the other.

It's been a long 2 days. I haven't been sleeping well and Vance seems to be on a sleep strike. Waking up early, going to bed late, and no naps. This new schedule has caused my little baby to grow a tail, horns, and a little mustache. One more day of this and he might even get a red spandex suit to go with it. If it happens I'll be sure to take a picture.

I myself have been wearing an oversized, black, pointy hat for the past two days. The lack of sleep, stress of baby decisions (I still haven't made any), and I'm working on a few projects that are due yesterday, if you know what I mean. Vance's behavior and no napping hasn't let me get anything done during the day and I'm beginning to enter freak out mode.

When Vance was taking a break from his devilish behavior today he asked if I could take the baby out of my tummy so he could hold her. The peanut gallery seems to be thinking a lot about the baby lately. Jack commented that he couldn't wait to see the baby and Ryan agreed. Jack also told me that if I went swimming I wouldn't drown because I'd float with my big belly.

Vance has been doing a lot of pretending that his Dog is a baby. Dog cries every now and again and needs to be held. Vance pushed Dog in the baby swing today while doing some playing in the basement. Sometimes Dog is going to have a baby sister. And Dog went potty today, Big Boy Style.

Tomorrow marks 30 weeks for the baby and I have another Doctor's appt. in the afternoon. Hopefully I'm not donning a large hairy mole.

Tired of looking at Oreo's? I bet!

We've been living out of suitcases for the past 10 days and are happy to be back in our own nest.
While not much has happened while we've been away, here's some highlights (in no order what so ever):

  • I made 3 trips to the airport while away. On my last trip, the highway I needed to take was closed due to an accident and I successfully navigated myself around. Given my driving record and my genes that is a miracle.
  • We brought our cold weather from home to our destination. Since we're back home now, I'm sure a warm-up is in the works.
  • While we were away, an ice storm hit our area. Our street is the messiest I've ever seen it. It's like a solid sheet of ice, polka-dotted with areas that have been plowed away. Bumpy.
  • Vance pooped in the potty for the first time. I know, Ewww.
  • While I did purchase our first 3 outfits for the baby, no other baby decisions have been made. In fact, I've only complicated things. More later.
  • Vance's furniture is finished. We can pick it up this weekend.
  • Lots to do this weekend. Must go start making To Do lists for tomorrow.

Homemade Oreos

Because cupcakes weren't enough, I also made cookies for Valentine's Day too. Homemade Oreos to be exact. They were a little time consuming, but well worth it. I was happy with how they turned out. Here you go:
Homemade Oreos - Dough
2 Devils Food Cake Mixes
1 1/4 c. Butter
4 Eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla
Mix all 4 ingredients well. Can add a little flour if it's too sticky. Refrigerating before rolling helps too. Roll into cherry sized balls. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets. 350 degrees 10-11 minutes.
Cream Filling
1 8oz. Package of cream cheese
1 tsp. Vanilla
3 1/2 c. Powdered Sugar
Mix well and spread between cooled cookies. (I had a ton of filling left over. Next attempt, I'll try halving the recipe.)
Enjoy!
We're heading out of town tomorrow, so posts will be light for the next 10 days or so. Try to hold yourselves together.

Comparison Day

Here we are Feb. 14, 2005. This was me 25 weeks pregnant with Senor.

Here I am a few days ago at 27.5 weeks. Pretty similar, I think.

Heart Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

Here's hoping Cupid brings you something more than a "hefty" amount of snow today!

On our way to Little Gym this morning we passed Obama's motorcade leaving the city. Tons of police cars and SUV's surrounding his bus. I'm sure it's really not called a bus, but you know. I was surprised that they even stopped the traffic on the highway behind him for miles. It was kind of cool to see.

In other non-important news, I'm into Pocky now. Pocky comes in many different flavors, but It's a cookie/cracker stick dipped in chocolate. I figure it's better for me than Nutella and it comes in a long, skinny case that opens like a cigarette box. Makes me feel so risque.

We watched the news last night to see how much snow we're supposed to get on Thursday. While I had my money that they would use more descriptive words like, "significant snow accumulation", they bucked up...kind of.

Apparently, on Thursday we're supposed to get 4-7+ inches of snow. Four to seven plus inches of snow. Can it get any clearer than that?

Hefty Snow

I just heard the weatherman say that we'll get pretty "hefty" snow totals on Thursday. I don't know what he considers hefty, but I find this scary and a little confusing.

I would totally find this language acceptable if someone like myself were left in charge of reporting the weather. However, I am not, and count on the knowledge of the weatherpeople to give reports in language that is more concrete and less debatable.

As of about two weeks ago, Vance understands that he can get up and out of bed when he wishes. For those two weeks he didn't nap because he was too busy enjoying his new found freedom. Thank goodness, we've only had one incident of him getting into trouble. Trouble that included a bottle of lotion and a black Sharpie marker. Trust me, it could have been worse.

Since then, naps have been easier. The freedom has worn off and the little guy finally wore down. He's allowed to play quietly in his room, and does so by reading books for a little bit then falls asleep.

Bedtime is still easy too. Only once has he decided to get up on his own, turn on his light, and do some light reading. He jokes with us before we put him down by asking, "Playtime?" and we'll reply, "No, it's naptime/bedtime".

I'm guessing we'll go through another adjustment phase when we move him from the toddler bed into a normal bed. I know we've had it easy, everything with Vance is easy, and I'm thankful for that. I'm sure the second one will be Hell on Wheels and we'll have no other choice but to turn to Super Nanny and ask for help. You'll see us on TV, strung out and asking ourselves, "When did we lose control?"
. . .

Daisy has not been herself lately, so off to the Doctor we went yesterday. He's thinking Daisy's arthritis has gotten worse and the cold weather is not helping (yet another reason to move to warmer climates). So, 3 different medicines and naming rights of the unborn child later, we've hopefully have an answer and Ms. Fuentes will start feeling better soon.

Mr. Vance has requested the following items to be included in his Big Boy room.

  • Spiderman
  • Drums
  • Guitars
  • Animals
  • Baseball
  • Cars, Trucks, etc.
He is a tough client and has big demands. I'm trying to include a little bit of everything and will use color to make everything flow...hopefully. What I'm trying to say is there is no set theme. His furniture will be black, the duvet and pillow sham is a deep red, and we're planning to paint the room a dark tan. I have a large canvas that I'm planning on painting something for him. A simple, two-tone line drawing of possibly a drum set or a car, not sure what yet. Still looking for a little bookshelf, a lamp, clock, and other room decor. I'm sure it will be fabulous.

No decisions have been made for the baby's room as of yet.

Our drainage pipe from the washing machine has frozen. Spewing water is not the best way to start off the morning. It happened once last year too, so I guess I need to ask a local what to do in order for this not to happen every winter. The answer, I'm hoping, is just to live someplace warmer. The high is 7 today. Yesterday the high was -3, so I guess things could be worse.

Gotta find a silver lining somewhere. Go find yours.

As of tonight, Vance is the new owner of a Big Boy mattress. Yes, that was us driving down the interstate, box spring tied to the roof of the car. I also ordered a duvet and sham for him today. We're moving right along on his room. Next up is painting.

12.5'' of snow yesterday. Snow totals for the season are up to about 73''. I do believe that is a new record for this area. City workers are out front now trying to clear our streets. No more snow plows, they're using Bobcats to move the snow from the sides of our streets onto the once grassy areas between the streets and the sidewalks.

Just a few shots to try to relay the idea of how much snow we're dealing with. All the closeups of Justin clearing the driveway are for that purpose. When we're enjoying the beautiful spring and summer weather and someone says, "The winters aren't thaaat baaad!" I will pull these pictures out and shove them down that persons throat.

Justin has yet to hear back from the Doctor in regards to his blood tests and X-rays. However, his medicine is working and he's starting feeling better.

I, on the other hand, am slowly dying. Charity my have my Roberto Coin necklace when I kick it. That's all I can think of worth giving away right now. I started antibiotics today for a sinus infection and they have not kicked in yet. I hurt everywhere.

Justin was supposed to leave yesterday on another business trip. Obviously, he did not go, but still had to work from home today. Vance has done unmentionable things over these past 4 days of his home confinement. He's so bored he resorting to unthinkable things to get attention and it's been a trying time around here.

Tomorrow has to be better. Thanks for everyone thinking about us.

Updates as of Saturday Morning: Warning, we're pathetic.

Both went to the Doctor yesterday. Justin got more medicine, had chest X-rays, and blood drawn. Won't know anything until Monday. Myself, after having intense upper back and chest pain, called and got an appointment the same time as Justin's. Funny, if you mention back, chest pain, and that you're pregnant, they always find an opening. My doctor gave me a prescription, but I have not filled it yet. Going to try to tough it out. You know, for the baby's sake....

Justin went to bed around 6:00, Vance around 7:00, and myself around 8:00.

Justin and I went to sleep in different bedrooms although we share the same symptoms. Fever, aches, chills, cough, and congestion.

We're both feeling a little better this morning. Hope it continues for the rest of the day.

The Team is having a rough day.  It was supposed to be a good day.  We had an appointment to view a Pre-School for Vance.  We had dinner plans at a friend's house.

Justin thinks he has the flu. He has a doctors appointment in a bit and was told he'd have to wear a mask when he arrives.

My cold took a turn for the worse last night. I'm achy, head is pounding, and cough is 10 times worse. My eyes hurt.

Sheets are in the washer on sanitize mode.

Vance woke up an hour earlier than he usually does. He had yogurt and half of a cold hot dog for breakfast.

Daisy will be babysitting Vance for the remainder of the day.

Glucose test was negative (good) but I'm anemic (bad). Yea.

Kristin, thanks for the heads up about Target. I quickly checked but didn't really see anything. I'll have to go see it in person. I'll try to put a picture up of the style I like later today.

Please send good thoughts our way. (Ideally, ones for Vance taking a 4 hour nap today and playing quietly by himself.)

Happy Birthday Charity!

Hope today is full of presents and zero-point cupcakes!

We love you!
