Double Tooth Fairy Night

I registered Vaughn for kindergarten last week and this week she lost her first tooth. Monday night, to be exact. I'm scared to see what next week will bring. Bra shopping? Driver's license? Tattoo?

Actually, her other bottom middle tooth is really loose so I have a feeling that next week will bring an even more toothless Vaughnie.

She's 4.5 years old. Vance was 6 when he lost his first tooth.  Ay, yay, yay.

Kids these days. They grow up so fast.

Interestingly enough, not 10 minutes after Vaughn's tooth came out, Vance lost another one too. He had been working on it for a week or so and there was no way he was going to let a chance for a double Tooth Fairy night be missed! She had her work cut out for her that night because Vance left a long letter full of questions for her to leave answers for.

Kids these days. They want to know everything.

(Question of the day: Who does the pulling of the teeth at your casa? Do your kids come to you or do they yank them out themselves?)

Happy Thursday!

Bagels Sliced Like Bread: Perfect On The Go Snacking

"Sliced like bread, please"

That's how I'd always order bagels before I had kids. They're easier to eat sliced this way, plus less gets stuck in between your teeth!

Now that I have kids this little tip has become even more useful. Sliced this way, the pieces are easier for kids to hold and to share. They're also smaller so they are easier to eat. If they don't want it all right then just stash the bag in your purse for later!

Keep errand running less stressful with this little bagel trick!
Just ask the cashier for the bagel to be sliced like bread!

Happy Snacking!

P.S. I know my Pin It button hasn't been working for quite some time. I'm working on a solution. Sorry and Thanks!

Last Night's Dinner: Parents Cheer! Kids Frown!

pancetta, white bean and chard pot pies

Justin and I thoroughly enjoyed them. The kids? They pouted, ate the crust, and picked a few of the beans out of the mixture. They don't know anything. Let's get on with it from the people who appreciate food.

These are a bit more time consuming than our normal weekday meal but well worth it. I should also note that this was my first time attempting a pot pie so to have it turn out edible and even enjoyable was a good feeling. I followed the recipe except for two variations. First, I used pre-made pie crust. (Gasp!) Second, I used bacon instead of pancetta just because I had it on hand. Click the link for the full recipe, more pictures, and the how to's. It is a perfect recipe for chilly weather which is exactly what we have right now.

Our household is currently in a Dinnertime Drought and I am desperately looking for new ideas that everyone will enjoy. Care to share your families fave? I'd love to hear!

Happy Thursday Everyone!

Ready or Not, Today is Kindergarten Registration

Today is kindergarten registration but since Vaughn is just a baby I will not be attending. See? Just born.

Nope, I won't be attending registration. She's too young.
No teeth? No kindergarten.

Darn. There's the teeth, but those are the chubby cheeks of a toddler and we all know toddlers do not go to kindergarten.

Maybe in a couple of years she'll be old enough.

I'm all out of excuses. Today I am going to register Vaughn for kindergarten, ready or not.

I know she's more than ready. I'm the one who is clearly not. I  still can't believe it's time! Underneath all my non-readiness I'm excited that she's so excited about going to school. It's going to be a great year for her!

My Paper Bag Trick for Messy Projects

Cleaning up from a messy project is quicker with this simple trick. Plus it saves your tabletop!

Take a paper bag and cut in along the fold lines on both sides as shown in the picture.

Flatten.

This becomes your surface for messy projects. When complete, simply fold back up and tuck away for next time. (I keep mine in the pantry where the kids can reach it on their own.) When it gets too messy, toss it in the recycling bin and cut a new one!

Table and time saver! Hope this little trick helps!

I'm linking to these parties this week. Check them out for other great tips!
