Cheers to Not falling out of bed

Here's a quick peek at Vaughn's new bed that was delivered yesterday.

I'm proud to report that she didn't fall out.

She did wake up once and cry out because she couldn't find Roger.

{She's named her favorite dolls Roger, Kevin, and Big Baby. She's a girly girl but her dolls are clearly not.}

Found these guys hanging out the other day. Never know what you're going to find around here!

On today's agenda: Fancy Pants Adult meeting. I'll be playing the role of "adult" so I decided to dress the part. I went with smart khaki shorts and a light weight 3/4 sleeve sweater that reminds me of an Easter egg due to it's colors and pattern. Nothing says adult more than preppy easter egg.

Clearly I have issues.

I'm running on a few hours of sleep, haven't unpacked the dishwasher, and am trying to remember that Vance has Recycling Club tonight, so I'll have to pick him up.

Aaaannnnddd.....Action!

Happy Thursday!

Big Day

No one in this house slept in a crib last night.

{First time in almost 7 years}

It's a BIG day here today.

The crib was dismantled last night and put into the garage so it can be hauled out with the trash next week.

It's the old-school drop down side kind, so it can't be given away. I've seen crafty things done with old cribs, but none that will work in our house.

I'm going to be honest. Seeing that crib next to the trash can brings tears. I remember the BIG day when we bought it. We first had the big ultrasound, found out it was a boy, then headed to the furniture store. I was wearing my favorite pink maternity sweater. Justin, my mom, and his mom, all came with.

So many memories are tied into that one piece of furniture.

*wiping tears away*...*moving on*
Vaughn's BIG girl bed gets delivered today, so she slept on the floor last night.

I guess Vance was jealous of Vaughn because when we went to check on him before going to bed ourselves, he had made himself a little bed on his floor too.
Silly kids.

This is totally out of character for me but look what I picked up for Vaughn's room yesterday:

My taste isn't usually this "girly" but thought Vaughn would love it. My plan is to put it in her closet. A win win.

To sum things up, I guess one big day always leads to another big day. But be sure to enjoy all those in between days too.

(They all go too fast.)

Weekend Update: Where the hell have you been?

I was on hiatus last week because Vance had Spring Break, Vaughn had a cold and didn't go to school, and thus my little associates decided that my presence was integral for them to do even the smallest task. Yes, it seems that breathing can't even be done without me watching.

Vance goes back to school today, which means I'm back to having only one child to rear, so here you go, a post!

***************

The only notable thing that happened last week was that I took the kids fishing.

(Don't be too impressed, our neighborhood has a small catch and release pond.)

The only thing we caught were sticks, but we had fun trying.

On to the weekend!
Thankfully Vaughn was feeling better.

We went to one of our favorite stops, The Butterfly House. Vaughn walked around like this hoping that a butterfly would land, just like last year.

No luck for her, only for Justin. This one landed on his shoulder and stayed for a few minutes!

The storm that was rolling in looked scary:

It didn't stop us from our next stop - we drove through the storm to a furniture store and finally picked out a big girl bed for Vaughn. It gets delivered this week! However, the nightstands and dresser for her room are being refinished by moi and I haven't started them yet. I've given myself the deadline of having everything done by her birthday which is in about two months. Aaaand you guessed it, her room also needs to be painted too. Lots of work!

Speaking of painting, on Saturday we finished the dining room. We were getting a little tired of it looking like this:

I don't have any 'after' pictures yet, but I will tell you the color that we chose isn't one of the swatches shown.

We also tried our hand at fishing again and caught this little guy. Suprisingly, Vaughn wasn't afraid to touch it and wanted to throw it back in. Guess she takes after her cousin, Ryan, the most glamourous angler I've ever seen!

There you go, another weekend down. Hope you had a good one too!

I'm off to pack a lunch. Wahoo!

Flower Pops

Spring is definitely springing around here!

Winter seemed to pass us by and we've been enjoying the unseasonably warmer temps. We've been playing outside, ditching our winter coats, and best of all - seeing all of the flowers beginning to bloom! That's definitely where my inspiration has come from for these.

My favorite type of projects are simple ones and this one can't get any easier.

Here's how:

Push a lollipop stick into your marshmallow and dip with your favorite coating.

I used candy melts for a few but I thought that the plain white ones looked the best with these muffing liners. I used white almond bark to coat mine. Just follow the melting instructions on the package.

Tip: To keep them upright for drying, stick them into styrofoam or turn a colander upside down and place the lollipop sticks through the holes.

While the pops are drying get the mini-muffin liners ready. Using the tip of your scissors, poke a small hole in the center of the liner. When the pops are dry push the stick through the hole of the liner. If you've made the hole in the liner a little too big and it doesn't want to stay up just tie a ribbon right under it.

Viola!

Springy Marshmallow Flower Pops!

How cute would a big table of these be? With all the different designs of muffin liners that are now offered the possibilities are endless! These are from Wilton and remind me of tulips. Perfect for Easter or any other type of Springy Soiree!

Thanks for stopping by! I'm linking up to the following parties this week.

Happy St. Patty's Day!

We weren't lucky enough to catch a leprechaun this year, but we'll try again next year!

Hope everyone has a great St. Patrick's Day!

Leprechaun Trap Day

Today is Leprechaun Trap Making Day.

(I'm habitually known to label days in this manner. So much so that when Vaughn asks what day it is and I tell her, "Friday", she'll say, "No. What DAY is it?!"  I don't know why I do this. Maybe because it makes something small seem like a bigger event.)

So, yes. Today is Leprechaun Trap Making Day.

Vance has been planning for weeks. The drawing below? It's one of 64 pages of his trap ideas.

I have to admit I've been encouraging it. When I was little I was told that moss growing on the trees was put there by leprechauns and was a sign of Spring coming. I've kept this tradition going and have also been growing it.

Morning sunshine that bounces off shiny things and makes rainbows are also known to be signs of leprechauns in this house.

It's all good fun.

Today is also Rainbow Rice Krispie Making Day and since it's supposed to be nice outside, I'm sure it will be Park Day too.

I whipped up a few Lucky marshmallow pops for the kids yesterday, which are pictured up top. Just marshmallows dipped in almond bark then dipped again in green sprinkles.

Happy Friday! And Happy St. Patrick's Day tomorrow!

Vocab Word for the Day

Dirty Money:
[dur-tee] adjective, [muhn-ee] noun

1. The $150 in small bills we received for the washer and dryer pedestals we recently sold on Craigslist. The money is dirty, crumply, as is the envelope that it was in.

Yes, it's money and we're beyond thankful that someone was up for buying the pedestals that we no longer use.

But I wonder where was the money before? Why so crumply? Stuffed in a shoebox? Mason jar? Under a mattress?

All money is dirty. This money just seems extra dirty.

***************

In other news,

this is what's happening in the dining room.

The colors are totally off in the picture. Everything is extra bright for some reason.

Believe it or not, there's two light gray samples on the right. If you squint you can see they're just a bit different.

I think we've decided on a color and it only took 6 samples! It took 14 samples for deciding the "all-over" color - we're getting better at this!

Happy Wednesday!

Hot Zone for Hostility

Welcome to our laundry room. It's tiny, yellow, and has 3 doors.
It's a Hot Zone for Hostility.

The shoebox room is approximately 6' by 6' - whoever thought that adding an extra door clearly wasn't thinking things through correctly.

Door number 1 leads to the garage, door number 2 opens to a closet, and door numero 3 closes it off from the kitchen.

Door number 2 gives door number 3 a little high five every time it closes. How's that for calculation!?! (The architect: Phew! It fits!)

3 of us have been stuck in this room at the same time wearing snow gear and it was like a cage match. The shouting. The maneuvering of bodies. We were trying to get the gear off and get into the kitchen but you can't open the door when the gear is on the floor and, AND...! No one won.

There is a plan to re-do this room in the future. Cabinets will be hung over the washer and dryer. A table will be installed over the washer and dryer to make a flat surface. Most importantly, door number 2 will be forever removed and built-in cubbies for the kids will be installed in the closet.

But until that day arrives, we have to make the best of it. I hung Command hooks inside Door 2 at the kid's level so they can hang up their coats by themselves. They are also great at taking their shoes off and carrying them around the corner to the other hall closet where the shoe basket is.

This was a happy accident that happened back when we lived in Wisconsin. I had bought a magnetic curtain rod but wasn't able to use it on the, ahem, non-metal door so I set it on top of the washing machine to return to the store. It stuck and so I moved it to the side and it's been there ever since. I don't dry a lot of things so having any extra hanging space is a huge plus.

A cute saucer holds the soap cup and catches the drips. Surprisingly it's held up in all the cage matches.

There you go. A peek into the room of the house that brings out the hostility. Any Hot Zones in your house that make you a little  hostile?
