The Royal Wedding

Vaughn and I are celebrating the royal wedding with a haircut (for her, not me), waiting around for mulch to be delivered, buying a few new perennials to replace ones that didn't make it through the winter, and then shoveling said mulch around the landscaping.

We're using this small window of 0% precipitation to our advantage before the rain is here again tomorrow.

***************

I watched, did you? I missed the vows, but saw the last part of the ceremony and on after while on the treadmill. No lie, I got chills during parts of it.

Also no lie, I almost missed the kiss because I was in the middle of cleaning toilets. (Insert throne joke here.)

Enjoy the day and pinkies up for tea, ladies!

Pie Chart O' Life

If you were to do a pie chart of my life this is how it would look:

This is the type of compelling information that brings you back here everyday, isn't it?

What would yours look like?

Easter 2011

This is what the Easter weekend did to the kids:

This was how we found them when we returned back home on Sunday.

Poor little Birdies.

They clearly didn't have any fun at all over the weekend.

None whatsoever. A shame, really.

(Hope everyone had as good as weekend as we did!)

Doctor Vaughnie

Vaughn and I have been spending a lot more time together since she's decided to ditch her afternoon nap.

Here she is playing doctor.

Consumption levels of pretend tea have been upped, which is also the reason why my blogging levels have been down.

I'm running out of good ideas to keep her us occupied all day long.

Vance is home today for Good Friday, so at least I have backup.

Happy Earth Day everyone! If you bring a reusable travel mug to Starbucks today they'll fill it up with coffee or tea for free! Thanks, Tasha, for passing that info along!

Toothpaste & Psgetti

I've been doing more deleting of posts lately than actually posting them. I start something but by the time I get back to the computer to finish writing everything seems irrelevant and annoying.

I guess that's the problem with writing about daily minutia.

But before I sign off, here's two gems from today.

1. Vance comes to me and tells me that his tummy hurts. We start to talk about it and I ask him if he thinks it's because of something he ate.

Vance: It's probably all that toothpaste I've been eating.

Me: Wha? You've been eating toothpaste?

Vance: Yeah, I like to squirt it right into my mouth.

After shaking my head we had a little convo about the right and wrong way to use toothpaste.

2. Vaughn usually doesn't like to be rocked before bed, but for some reason she wanted to tonight so I took full advantage.

Vaughn: Mama, guess what? (She's whispering)

Me: What?

Vaughn: Psgetti is very noodly.

Me: You're absolutely right. Psgetti is very noodly. Thank you for telling me that.

Vaughn: You're welcome. I'd like to lay down now.

***************

There you go. A glimpse into our everyday. Boys experimenting with squirting toothpaste into their mouths (and outing themselves) and girls with squishy cheeks mispronouncing and making up words to express their big ideas. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Reusable Snack Baggies

I pack Vance's lunch everyday for school and I'm tired of spending money on baggies that get thrown away.

Viola! Reusable Snack Baggies were born. And as a added plus they're earth friendly. A twofer.

I purchased laminated cotton fabric online that is BPA free. I cut it to size, sewed a few straight lines, stuck on hook and loop squares and was in business. Seriously, I don't even think it took 10 minutes to make. Perfect.

The design is pretty simple, but it serves the purpose that it's intended for. Come on, I send them to school with Vance everyday so there's a chance that accidentally he'll throw them away. For that reason alone they don't need to be too fancy!

For washing, simply wipe them out or use soap and water and air dry.

I have a ton of fabric left over and soon will be up to my ears in reusable baggies. That's not a bad thing, right? I hear Teacher Appreciation Day is near, guess these could work for that. Would be great for keeping small things organized in your purse or desk!

Have a great Monday!

Oh! Want to get my posts via email? Just put your email in over there where it says "Follow by Email" and whenever I update it will go straight to your your inbox. Like magic, right???

My Traveling Mr.

Yes, I've been MIA and no, it's not because I've been off doing exciting things. Actually it's the exact opposite.

My Traveling Mr. has been gone since last weekend and finally gets his buns back home this afternoon. While he was gone we had approximately 7 minutes to talk each day. It's been a long week for everyone and we're looking forward to a lazy night at home.

The kids made cupcakes to surprise their father. Unfortunately, his favorite is white on white.

Did anyone else see that Friday Night Lights started again last night? I taped it to watch tonight. Is anyone else alarmed at all the drama going on in Parenthood? And with the Housewives? It's almost hard to watch. Woof.

Should we address Vaughn's hair? Scroll up to look at the picture and notice how long it's getting. It's out of control and I think a semi drastic change needs to take place.

It's Saturday...Holla! 5 finger drinks, Marky Mark style all around!

Weekend Update

We spent a lot of time doing this over the weekend:

You really haven't lived until you've watched streaming video of a sleeping bird on a Friday night.

When we weren't bird watching, we did our best to wear out the kids. "Hey Vance, run to that big tree and I'll time you!" Vaughn just follows Vance.

We also mingled with a Clydesdale. We agreed that his name was Fred.

We enjoyed the great weather, hope everyone did the same!

Dunzo

Dear Target $1 Spot,

We need to talk. You and me? Dunzo.

Yes, I used to stop by every time I walked through the doors, but no more. I'm tired of all the junk. And that's all that it really is, isn't it? That's what I thought.

Please don't tempt me with your brightly colored Easter stuff and cutesy bunny ear headbands. Vaughn won't even wear headbands. So, there.

We'll both benefit from this separation.

Sincerely,

Charisa & Co.

What we've been up to: A List!

What we've been up to: A List!

  • I volunteered in Vance's classroom for the first time last week. Kindergarten is crazy place, man. I couldn't handle that everyday. The teachers asked how old I was. I'm going to start telling people what they want to hear instead of my standard reply of "Yes, I know I look young...". Maybe I'll write to Oprah, tell her my story, and suggest doing a show that reveals tips on how to look older.
  • I realized that Vaughn will be 3 soon and is still on the sippy cup. For the most part, Vance was done with his by 3 but I've learned early on that these two children are not comparable by any means. Vaughn, bless her heart, is the epitome of clumsy. We're going to take the open container hurdle slowly.
  • Vance has found his love of sports. Recently he mentioned that he'd like try polo. I told him that I'd file that recommendation and we can revisit it when an opportunity presents itself. In the mean time we've been doing lots of basketball, soccer, kickball, and pitching to him.
  • Last week I tweeted about a spider in our house. I didn't want a bug smear to be on the ceiling, we don't have ceiling touch up paint, so I was waiting until he came down onto the wall to get him. Of course I forgot about him and next thing I knew he was gone. Vance found him yesterday though and we may or may not have carried him safely outside.
  • Vance has been waking up early again. When he wakes up he gets himself dressed, puts his pj's away, brushes his teeth, and makes his bed. This is a good thing but stinks when you try to put him back into bed and find his bed neatly made. I heard the ruckus and found him, ready for the day, sitting in the kitchen. I let him hang out in our bed instead. This was at 6:15 this morning. It's going to be a long day for him.
Have a great Monday!
