My Son, the Shrimp

Vance had his first swimming lesson last night. He's the newest member of the Shrimp level at our local YMCA. I watched from the viewing deck while Justin and Vance sang songs, bopped up and down, and perfected "kitten" kicks in the water. He had a pretty good time, but was chilly in the cold water. Maybe he'll be ready to put his face in the water next week. Esther Williams, watch out!

In other news, Vance is pumped for trick or treating tonight. We carved pumpkins over the weekend, and to my surprise, Vance wanted nothing to do with the pumpkin guts. So, he supervised while Justin and I carved. And by supervising I mean he tried to steal our knives when we set them down, push the guts on the floor with a spoon, and feed the seeds to Daisy. Never a dull moment! When we lit them up he gave us a big "Wow". So young and such a way with words...

Pictures to follow tomorrow.

Look Away!

I have a rash. An itchy and ugly rash. I went to the doctor today and learned that there's not too much they can do for it. It has to run its course. And it will get worse before it gets better. I did get something to help with the itchiness, but there's no magic pill to make it go away. Did I mention the rash is ugly? If you need to reach me, I'll be under a rock for the next 6-8 weeks.

Vance had his first hair cut! A few tears were shed when Roger Dodger tried to put the cape on him - so he went without. All the cool kids are doing it...

News Alert

This is one of Madison's news anchors. I have always said St. Louis has the best news channels. That being said, Madison has the worst. It appears that they are taped in someone's basement using dated sets and awkward looking anchors. Where is this channel's stylist? Who let this lady on air with wings, roots, and frosty pink lip gloss?

Poll!

My birthday is right around the corner and Justin proposed this hypothetical question: If I could choose a present would it be a new digital camera, new family room furniture, or a new washer and dryer. I need a new camera. The one I am using is embarrassing and resembles a box. It would be great to have new furniture, but we don't really NEED it. We really don't need a new washer and dryer, but according to someone, ours doesn't really work. The poll is on the sidebar, under the previous entries. Rock the Vote!

The week in a nutshell...

We've been busy here lately! It took two weekends to stain the fence, a job I never want to do again. I've tried my hand at the sugar cookies again and this time produced a better outcome. I used The recipe, but still didn't get it exactly right. I will try it again and will add more cream cheese to the frosting. I've made a Halloween sign and finally finished my little table for one of the guest rooms. It's windy, rainy, and cold here with a chance for snow tonight and tomorrow. Where did the Fall go???

Warning to Flyers

Thought I'd better let everyone know that Dramamine is not sold in the Toronto Airport. Interestingly enough, you can get a pack of Trojans. Guess we know what airport officials would rather passengers do on the plane and in the airport. Consider yourself warned.

Cocktail Time

Sandra Lee says adding rum to oatmeal cookies makes them taste more homemade. Hmmm... Guess I've been underestimating rum for all these years. I wonder if I add rum to my Lean Cuisine tonight, will it also taste more homemade?

Random Picture of the Day

This proves that Vance has mowed the lawn more times than I have.

A Question For You

What if I told you one of the workers at my house today clogged my toilet? Would you believe me? Would you believe that the clogged toilet overflowed and while I was playing janitor, Vance ate drywall? Would you? Would you? Would you?
